On June 14, 2024, INIAV, IP – Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária contributed to the Nutrir Território meeting in Melgaço with an exciting presentation titled “Castas locais vs castas resistentes: Um desafio para o território” (“Local varieties vs. resistant varieties: A challenge for the territory”).
This presentation addressed the delicate balance between maintaining traditional local grape varieties and adopting more resistant strains in response to evolving environmental conditions, including climate change. As regions like Melgaço face increasing pressures, the need to innovate while preserving the identity and heritage of local agriculture is becoming more urgent. INIAV’s presentation provided insight into how to navigate this challenge and ensure a sustainable future for viticulture.
